There Comes A Time

   Here we are at the Lethbridge Festival of Quilts.

If you did not make it to Lethbridge Festival of Quilts, you missed a fabulous show. The quilts were awesome. This one especially caught my eye. Do you recognize it? It's in multi colour. And what is even better, this 150 Canadian Women quilt by Terri Forbis won viewers choice. Congratulations Terri.
 

The ribbons are cool because the guild members make the blocks and the ribbon company makes them into a spectacular ribbon.

   Hiking was excellent today. We saw deer, mountain goats, mountain sheep and a momma grizzly with three one year old cubs on the drive to the trail head. Pics to follow from a guy that had a long range camera on the grizzly. 

Off To Lethbridge

   We are off to Lethbridge Quilt Show this week. This show happens every two years and is a fabulous show. The guild members are very creative and artistic. When you are there be sure to stop at our booth. The shop will be open on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. See you in Lethbridge.
   Last Monday I attended a quilt show put on by the Okotoks quilt guild. Peggy had her 150 Canadian Women's quilt reverently displayed in the church. I was in awe to see the quilt in the church while remembering all the women that we learned about.

   This quilt is designed and created by my sister. It has crocheted doilies by her, mom and mom's mom. Each doily is painstakingly hand sewn to the quilt top. The flying geese around the center added a wonderful other dimension to the doilies. A fantastic keepsake.

Quilt Festival Hiking

   We want to thank everyone that stopped by our booth at Heritage Park Festival of Quilts. The first day was rainy but everyone came to shop. The second day was glorious and everyone came to shop. It was like old home weekend seeing everyone. We had a blast talking to everyone.

  The hike today was also wonderful. My dad's favourite flower, Shooting Star, were out in full bloom all along the trail.

I remember he tried to transplant one of them but they didn't take. However, you can have your own shooting star, Showering Stars kit. Plus there is enough of the jelly roll left to make a table runner or pillow.

 

   The hike today was not without a feature attraction. In fact there were two features. The first being the beautiful trails for hiking

with peek-a-boo spots of the glorious mountains that are only minutes away.

The second was this gorgeous Black Bear. He scared two white tail deer away plus us. We just observed what he was interested in; it wasn't us. So we made ourselves large and noisy and he ran back into the woods. What male wants to take on 11 loud women with pointy hiking poles and bear spray?

Leaders and Enders

Two weekends, Two awesome quilt shows.
Am loving textured backgrounds and the large dots with the giraffes. 

Kathryn and I happened to see each other at this scrappy quilt made of 2" log cabin blocks. We were talking about how long that it would take to make. I mentioned that this would make a great leader and ender quilt. A What? A Leader and Ender. 

Normally I use a Thread Dog. What? A thread dog. It is a piece of fabric that is a 1.5" to 2" wide piece of scrap fabric folded in half. The length can be any size. Instead of having threads at the beginning of your chain piecing or any piecing, you stitch across the width of the thread dog. This helps prevent the threads from balling up at the beginning of the stitching as well as the fabric getting caught in the feed dogs. When you are finished the stitching, cut the thread dog off from the beginning, leader, and stitch across it, ender, then cut the pieced pieces off.  

So, instead of using the Thread Dog you can stitch together pieces for another quilt that are small, mindless and tedious to make, ie 4-patch units, tumbler blocks, flying geese, even these little log cabins. I have 160 small flying geese to make and this is the perfect way to get them done by using them as leaders and enders.

Here I am using the flying geese for leaders and enders. As I press the chain piecing I also press the flying geese. Even when sewing the rows together in goes a flying goose as a leader and ender.

This is a great technique if you are not in a hurry to make the second quilt. Before you know it you will have all the pieces together and a second quilt completed.

Whew, made it home. Hectic, fun and wonderful it was at Quilt Market. Instead of flying, I drove, visiting quilt shops along the way.

When out for some excellent ribs at Podnah's BBQ. Our waitress was excellent and so fun. After dinner we drove around the neighbourhood to view the rhododendron trees, not shrubs, actual 8 foot trees or higher, in all colours. Purple, red, pink and white. 

Isn't this star block just the cutest? Yes, it is only 6" square. It's for the 2018 Murder Mystery Quilt program. Ah new quilt idea.

Claresholm Ninja Senior

It was so exciting to reconnect with the Claresholm and Calgary quilters at the Fibre Arts and Quilting show last Saturday. I was so glad to see many of you that participated in the 150 Canadian Women program stop by the booth to visit.

Spring Happy Space 5

Hooray, Spring is finally here! It was surprising and wonderful to come home from a green grass and trees in leaf place to no snow, lake ice melted and seeing green grass under the last year's grass. I keep saying that I'm going to green turf the front yard so it's green all year round. Just think I'll have the greenest yard in the hood and no mowing.

Has anyone read this book, Solve For Happy, by Mo Gawdat, engineer and Chief Business Officer for Google X. I was intrigued, how can engineering be applied to happiness? I've only read 100 pages so far and it is very thought provoking. It's very interesting to see how a logical mind, as in engineering, mathematical, computer, relates to happiness. Page 50, The Voice is Not You, is ... Really? Hummmm?

Space 5, the final frontier and right through the Black Hole is up and ready.

Three fifths completed. Oh so close.
The time has flown by. It's summer. Beautiful days. July 1 is just around the corner.
Spent last weekend vending at the fabulous Lethbridge Festival of Quilts. These ladies are awesome and they create awesome quilts.

Week 28 at Quilt Market

St Louis Missouri was hot and muggy or rainy outside and cold and air conditiony inside. At times you had to go outside to warm up. 
This quilt, Second Chances by Rhonda Dort, is awesome. Speechless at the amount of handwork and intricate details in each 6" hexagon.

Week 28 - 
No these are not new blocks. They are blocks that you received last week in the double header. We are moving along rather grandly and hope you are as well. If you have competed them already, woo hoo, you have a week off.
