Weekend Pairs Paper Piecing

  Last week, almost final cleanup, donating fabric to mask makers and my friend's fabric orphanage. Already orphans have been distributed and put into both masks and quilts.

   Seven more quilts ready for the quilter. I'm still so excited to go to the personal stash wall and pull fabric just like that. And the unused fabric has been promptly going back to the wall.

Scrub Bags

   First, remember all the complaining I was doing when reorganizing The Stash? All the measuring, labelling and filing of the fabric is now a god send. I'm so excited because a lady in my neighbourhood sent a call out for fabric to make or to actually make scrub bags for the nurses and doctors in a couple of hospitals here in Calgary. Oh yeah, down to the stash and pull, pull, pull. She wanted between .75m/30" and 1m/40" pieces. Awesome, a quick run through the fabric stash colour wall and voila, two boxes, 200 m, a bit larger than banker boxes, and a small bag of fabric ready for pickup. I'm so excited. 😂

   Now I'm thinking I should have gone though the bins of less than 1m/39" measured, labelled and folded fabric in the bins. Oh well. Well, don't I get phone call for fabric to make scrub bags for other hospitals. Woohoo. So through the bins to pull and fill another two boxes and a small bag, 200 m more ready for pickup. More happiness.😂

Fabric Organization - Space 4

Like me do you spend a lot of time searching for a fabric that you know you have. I also spend a lot of time searching for a certain length of fabric. Frustration. Then when pulling fabric from the shelf sometimes others come out as well because I didn't use a long ruler to separate the fabric on top and bottom of the wanted piece. So now it's in a pile on the floor. And does it get put back properly? Maybe.

This will be the umpteenth organization. Many years ago the fabric was on cardboards, but, there was no consistency in cardboard width. Some are thick; some are thin. And I the fabric reproduced somehow. 😇Then, it went to being folded and put into bins, but, the bins were not square and there was wasted property between the bins. And on, and on until lastly, it was refolded using a 9 1/2" ruler and laid flat, but, hard to see the fabric and if at the bottom of the pile then too hard to pull out. 😣 The plan is to have the fabric go from this

It seems like it will take forever to redo, but, it will definitely be better in the long run. I'm using the Original Mini Bolts for the centers. They are 7 1/2" x 11 3/4" white plastic. Since the fabric has to be laid out before rolling onto the Mini Bolt, I'm measuring the yardage at the same time, then rolling the fabric on the mini bolt and putting a label on the top with the yardage written on it.

Bonus Blocks

Winter arrived a couple days after we got back from Quilt Market. From 70 degrees to -7 degrees.

Week 47 Blocks 139-141 What a Difference a day makes.

Yesterday the weather was beautiful. The wind was warm. The neighbourhood rabbit, George, was enjoying the day. BUT, 

today is another story. It's warm and blizzarding. More blowing snow that snowing. Driving in the city was so easy BUT once you got to the outskirts, forget it. Did I turn around. Nope. The mind said turn around turn around go home; you can go tomorrow. The foot said you can do it. All I kept thinking was what a trucker said to me, 'Don't stop. Keep moving. It's more dangerous to stop than to drive slow.' This picture is my back yard in the city early this morning. Next week there will be images of the blowing snow. 

Finally got the two scrap quilts completed. They are off to the quilter. Pattern coming soon.

To really Canadianize our 150 quilt we put this Canada panel, approx 13"x20", on the back and are using the stripe for binding. All fabrics are available here. 

A picture is worth a thousand words when taken by the right photographer. Can a person, let alone a woman, estimate the upcoming crops. Yes she can and with accuracy. She may not be able to swim but, she sure saved a lot of people.

Week 44 Blocks 130-132 Scraps of Red

Week 44 - 22/25ths complete. Did you ever think you would get this far? It was touch and go about halfway through when the blocks had smaller pieces to deal with. But, we pulled through and are the downhill slide almost to the bottom of the blocks and fabric. Hallelujah!
