Mystery One Block Wonder

This year I joined the Murder Mystery Quilt 2018 club. You get the block pattern and finishing instructions plus the murder mystery story. I love the diamond fabric from Northcott Fabrics and am experimenting with different textures. Over the years I've learned a lot about using different textures in quilts from Bernadette when Traditional Pastimes was around and not to worry about lining up the textures. When cutting the diamonds on the diagonal I got lucky. It worked out so that they were going in one direction.

This one block wonder has been hanging on the design wall for a long time because it was boring. Something's missing.

I didn't want to go all out and add a lot of elaborate cubes. A nice surprise to see how  adding a minimum number of plain cubes changed the look.

The book recommends to press the seams open. When there are so many seams it's hard. Brain wave. Use The Roll, an old notion that's used in garment making. It looks like a sausage and works great because it's so easy to finger open the seams and press.

Next week the Space program details will be available.
Until then,
Enjoy!

Alberta Wild Rose

In the throes of deep snow and -30C temperatures here in Alberta, it was fantastic to see a beautiful block designed by Lauren MacDonald, a 150 CW Quilt Along participant. It reminded me that Spring and all the flowers are just around the corner. Some of you in the group may have seen the facebook post last week. Many of us were in awe of the block, a variation on the Wild Rose. Lauren has generously allowed me to write instructions for her block and put it out here for you.

The block pattern is on our freebie page on the website. You can make it 6", 9" or 12" finished.

A huge thank you to Lauren!
Enjoy!

Quilter Wasn't In

Well okay, I confess, I've been on the couch. Didn't do a darn thing last week except watch chick flicks and sappy feel good movies and on Monday had a home made 4 hour lunch with wine at a girlfriend's home. Yes, I know that the next quilt program is just around the corner. However, the fabric wasn't going together as I wanted it to so it was decided that a break was required for rejuvenation.

The other thing that was decided is that the 13 biweekly 2018 program will start March 6 and end in August. Details are still to come. My apologies to those that are eager to purchase fabric and begin the program.

Here's to a more productive week,

Happy New Year in Space

Hope every one had a wonderful New Year's Day. 2018 is going to be a fabulous year.
Did every one see 2018's most super Supermoon tonight? If not, you can still see it tomorrow night, January 2. This Supermoon is the biggest and brightest moon in 2018 and a fantastic prelude to our 2018 quilt.

The background colour is between royal and navy blue with gold stars with lemon yellow, orange yellow and lime green in the blocks. The lime green is for the moon being made of green cheese. There are only 12 blocks and the finishing instructions. Stay tuned for details.

Enjoy your week!
