Happenings - Blocks 112-114

What's happening is it is really smoky and summer is half over. For those with school children you are half way to back to school. New clothes, new books, new pens and pencils, new this and new that.

As a kid, those days were great days. As a mom or a dad it was even better days. The days of hearing I'm bored, there's nothing to do will soon be over. As an adult, doing nothing is now a blessing and definitely not boring. I have learned how to piddle a day away, no problem.

Which brings me to the next three women. They definitely did not piddle their days away. I'm exhausted just reading about them. They went all out throughout their lives. First at this, first at that. Kim knew what she wanted and went for it. Grace proved that women are just a capable as men. Elizabeth wasn't going to put up with any shit from the hired hands and sold the farm.

Week 37 Blocks 109-111 Wear Sunscreen

Elaine from Crazy Quilter on a Bike, reminded me last week about the song Wear Sunscreen that came out in 1999. Yes a long time ago based on years, or as it really is, a very short time ago because time has flown. To this day the message still applies. For all the young'uns take heed. For all you old'uns think back and smile. It is so true.

Since Friday it's been wear sunscreen and breathe non smoke air. The winds have shifted away from Calgary. It was great to go out and smell the roses.

Week 37 brings women that defended Canada, that painted about the war and that survived the war to use genetics to learn a person's problems and help them.

Blocks 106-108 Smoke and Fire

Fire and smoke. Smoke and fire. British Columbia and now Alberta forests are on fire. The smoke is thick in Calgary. Fine pieces of ash can be found on outdoor objects. Not a great way to get back to reality after the Stampede. Went to hike at Grassi Lakes in Canmore AB this morning, smoke not as thick, but I went shopping instead at The Sugar Pine quilt shop in Canmore so all was not lost.

I was so surprised, I'm sure you will be as well, to find out that an all time favourite cartoon of mine is Canadian.
Unfortunately, I wasn't surprised to learn about the situation that a young Canadian had to go thru to get an education. The fact is that these situations are still happening in Canada.

Week 35 Blocks 103-105 Stampede Time

In Calgary, it is said the seasons are winter and Stampede. This means cold and either hot and thunderstorms or both. This year it is hot hot hot. Sizzling hot especially beside the flapjack and sausage cook tops. I'm on the Stampede breakfast caravan committee. Fortunately, I'm usually in kids zone in the making rope, lassoing wooden bulls, tossing rings on the wooden animals, milking fake cows, sitting on saddles, planting sunflower seeds or around the pony ride corral. If you are at one of the malls that Team A caters stop by to say Yahoo!

Week 35 - 7/10ths of the way. More paper piecing, Yahoo! Fortunately or maybe unfortunately this is the last of it.

This is the last week of availability of Block 96 that had the revisions.

Helen, Lois and Helen either worked or retired by the sea. In any case, they all were masters in their area.

Canada Day and Fourth of July Blocks 100 to 102

Did everyone survive Canada's 150th birthday?
We spent our morning flipping pancakes in Canmore Alberta, then watching the parade, then visiting Sugar Pine Quilt Shop.

To all our American neighbours

Don't forget to download the revised Caroline Louise Josephine Wells history, Block 96.

We are at the 100th block. Nothing could be finer. No problem as we are all experts now. And politics still gets in the way for the next three women.
